The Rocket routine was created by Larry Schultz and named by Bobby Weir of the Grateful Dead. It is based on the traditional sequences of Ashtanga yoga. Larry had been practicing traditional Ashtanga for seven years, mostly the primary series. After seven years of practice, he was shown the splits or Hanumanasana. His hips were three feet off the ground and he thought to himself, "Why wasn’t I shown this pose seven years ago?" This was the beginning of The Rocket.
Larry began yoga and sequencing the poses around the joints of the body. Bobby Wier loved The Rocket and when Larry first taught it to him, Larry asked, “What should we call that routine?”
In less than one breath Bobby replied, “The Rocket.”
“Why?” asked Larry.
Bobby replied, “Because it gets you there faster!”
The Rocket offers three routines that are meant to be
practiced together throughout the week. Rocket Yoga
provides a system to work the whole body in a therapeutic
manner. If all three Rockets are practiced each week, you
will experience over 140 poses and many Rocket transitions.
"It’s like an invisible force of energy,” Larry said,
“To help us reach our dreams and our goals."
